Eat Clean, Drink Clean.

Clean Eating is a term that is very popular right now. The premise is that you can’t get healthy just by exercising and counting calories. You need to eat the right foods with the right vitamins, nutrients, and minerals. These foods being “clean foods”. The foods are fresh and organic vegetables, fruits, meats, and grains. Clean eating involves reading Nutrition labels and ingredients and eating only foods with no more than 6 ingredients on the label. Those ingredients being whole foods that you can pronounce. You also eat 4-6 small meals over the course of that so that you don’t get hungry. These small meals should include a complex carbohydrate and a protein as much as a possible.

As I read more and more about this way of eating I realized I’m not too far off from it so why not get it a try? Except of course, that I like to drink wine. So, the idea of the Eat Clean, Drink Clean concept came to me. I mean, I don’t eat meat so I think delicious wine just replaces my “meat”. I know, I know, your laughing at me right now. Heres the thing, I don’t totally believe in “diets” I believe if you eat healthy MOST of the time and splurge on the foods you really do enjoy, then that’s the Ying and the Yang of living a healthy lifestyle. With that said I am a devotee of Weight Watchers points counting, it’s a great way to check in on yourself.

No one is perfect. If you tell me I CAN’T eat it, I’m going to not only eat it, but devour the whole bag. So, what if you eat whole foods but instead of having to take on the whole “Clean Eating Detox” make it ACTUALLY work for the average person who likes a glass of vino? We are about to find out! For the next week I’m going to embark on my Eat Clean, Drink Clean version of Clean Eating. Vacation is about 6 weeks away so I figure now is as good a time as any to see what I feel like after the next 7 days. I’ll report back of my workouts, meals, and of course, alcoholic beverages. Oh, and one more thing Clean Eating doesn’t include cheese. EEK!!! So yes, I may be including that too (in limited quantities) but only from our local Cowgirl Creamery and not the stuff you get in the package at the grocery store.

Here is todays’ Eat Clean, Drink Clean happenings:

Meal 1, 7am- 2/3 cup of oatmeal with 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries, 1 tablespoon of flaxseed, 1 tablespoon on chia seeds, coffee

Workout 1: Barre Circuit Training for 55 minutes

Meal 2, 11am- 1 apple, 1 ounce of Mrs. May’s Cashew Crunch (my favorite snack at the moment)

Meal 3, 2pm- A salad of spinach, 2 tablespoons of quinoa, 1/4 cup each of diced mango, beets, cherry tomatoes, shredded carrots, and red onion. Topped with a homemade Oil and Vinegar

Workout 2: Kickboxing Cardio for 4o minutes

Meal 4, 4pm- 1 apple, 1 tablespoon of Natural Peanut Butter

Meal 5, 6:30pm- 1 and 3/4 cups of Amy’s Organic “No Chicken” Noodle Soup, 1/2 whole wheat tortilla with 1 tablespoon on hummus spread on top

4 ounce glass of white wine

I had a glass of water with each meal and a full bottle of water with each workout.

* I actually stayed within my 26 Weight Watchers points for the day and managed to bank 7 points for Activity.
